Monster-taming MMO Temtem just launched out of early access on PC earlier this week, but developers Crema have taken to Discord to defend the game’s paid battle pass. Some players have been getting themselves very worked up over the inclusion of a paid pass in a full-priced game. Yet there’s been a plan to include a battle pass in Temtem for years.
It’s from the Discord that we have a message from Tsukki, one of the game’s community managers, who wrote up a post earlier in the week to defend Crema’s choice for including a battle pass.
“Our intention has always been to avoid p2w, and to make any premium item as optional as possible. Anything and everything paid in Temtem is cosmetic only,” she writes. “Still, we understand there are reasons against battle passes that don’t have to do with the economic factor of it. We know some people are against them by nature, and we entirely respect that and their decision to walk away from the game.” Tsukki further asks for those who disagree with the monetization choice to not harass the devs.
That monetization includes something called a Tamer Pass--Temtem's version of a battle pass or seasonal pass. As you'd expect, the season pass levels up during gameplay and unlocks rewards. There are 80 different rewards--20 on the free track and 60 on the paid track--and all of them are purely cosmetic in nature.
Temtem’s battle pass isn’t something that Crema have snuck into the game at launch, either. As far back as February 2020, Imogen reported that there’d be some kind of a battle pass system coming. Crema even included it on their roadmap for the game, and insisted back then that any potential microtransactions would still be purely cosmetic.
To play well the gameplay, you’ll need Pansuns, Temtem’s in-game currency, to buy all of the items (gear, cosmetics, or general items) you use, from Balms to Revives to TemCards. Since you need all these items to keep your squad of Temtem in fighting shape, you’ll need to have plenty of money on hand. Pansun is the currency used in the Airborne Archipelago. It can be farmed through selling items at Temporiums, winning Temtem battles, and winning in PvP based matchmaking. And there is also an easy and fast way for you: buying Temtem Pansun at the secure marketplace z2u.com.
